Company History

In December 1925 Mr Joseph Brierley resigned from KRA Brushes when they moved from Ashton under Lyne. In February 1926 he set up in business in Old Street, Ashton under Lyne, with three employees, producing brushes for the textile trade, corporation brooms, and scavenger brooms for a Manchester company called Rodo Limited, who manufactured salt licks for cattle which they distributed to farms along with other requisites. Rodo's Managing Director, a Mr Holt, agreed with Joseph to form a company called Rodo and to take a portion of the capital. However, within a short period Mr Holt wished to sell his portion, which Joseph then purchased. This was a difficult period, with the famous 1926 General Strike and the start of the contraction of the Lancashire textile industry.

Rodo Today

Now based in Lumb Lane, Droylsden, Rodo has over 100,000 square feet of warehouse space under one roof, with approximately 100 employees and is the largest supplier of decorating sundry products in the UK. Excellent relationships with suppliers across the globe, together with a can-do approach to business, continue to enable the company to offer its customers a large and diverse product range to help grow their businesses. Product development remains at the heart of Rodo’s business ethos and research into new products, together with improvements to existing products, is an ongoing process. As a result, the company continues to enjoy healthy year on year growth.

Rodo supplies branded and own label products to all the major players in the UK trade, both under its own brands - including Blackrock, ProDec, Fit For The Job, Job Done - and in own label. The company also has a significant presence amongst independent DIY merchants, supplying branded products, including Fit for the Job, and own label.

2006 heralded Rodo's entry into the growing markets for performance workwear and safety equipment with the launch of the Blackrock brand. This represents an exciting diversification for the company, illustrating once again its ability to respond to both changing times and the needs of its customers.
